Texas Level 3 Security Guard Certification and Training

Texas Security Guard Certification Training Process

Level 2 Unarmed Security Guard License

  1. Take the 100% online Level 2 Online Course $49

  2. Apply for your license on the Texas Online Private Security website and upload your training certificate in the online application process.

*Level 3 INCLUDES Level 2!

Level 3 Armed Commissioned Security Guard License

  1. Take the 100% online Level 3 Classroom Portion Online Course  $150

  2. Complete the in-person Level 3 Live Fire Proficiency (shooting test) $60

  3. Apply for your license on the Texas Online Private Security (TOPS) website and upload your training certificate(s) in the online application process.

Level 4 Armed Personal Protection Officer (Bodyguard) License

  1. Take the in-person Level 4 PPO 2-day Course $250

  2. Log on to your Texas Online Private Security (TOPS) website and upload your training certificate in the online application process.

New Bill Alert effective Jan 01, 2024!

HB3424 requires a new Level 3 security guard to take a 10 hour in-person firearms proficiency class.  We will be scheduling these new classes for all Level 3 firearms proficiencies after Jan 1st! Link to HB3424 here

Please be advised under the Private Security Act (Occ. Code Chapter 1702) and Administrative Rule 35.4 (37 Tex. Admin. Code 1), a criminal conviction may disqualify you from a registration, commission or license under the Act. You may wish to review Rule 35.4’s list of disqualifying offenses and the related periods of ineligibility, available on the department’s website at http://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/psb/index.htm.

You also have a right to request from the department a criminal history evaluation letter under Occupations Code Section 53.102.
